Tuesday 2nd April 2013

This morning, we got up fairly early and had breakfast and packed up camp and headed for the Namibian border crossing at Vioolsdrif.  Then it was getting through customs – which was pretty tedious and took longer than usual, probably as the officials were recovering from the long Easter weekend.
We stopped off to refuel, at last, at Noordoever.  Just next door is a farm stall where we stopped to share a sandwich and have a coldrink.  It looked like the local crèche as there was a birthday party for a one year old child, with all the mommies and babies. It is amazing that there are so many children around an area that looks so scarcely populated.
We then got back on the road and headed for Ai-Ais Hot Springs – which we thoroughly enjoyed when we popped in 2 years ago.

The gravel road is fairly good, but the dead straight road is really boring.  The rain of the last couple of days has caused some wash-aways.  When we arrived at Ai-Ais, we were told at reception to find our campsite and pay before we leave as their system was off-line.

We spent the afternoon swimming in the luke-warm pool, outside and tried the indoor pool later too.  Unfortunately, there was a individual who liked the sound of his own loud voice and continually moaned at the staff about the fact that the water was not hot enough for him.  L:  I felt that the hot air could be put to better use…..heating the water.
S:  We then set up camp, did a bit of washing, filled up our water tank from the bore-hole water that they drink – yuck.  We are going to have to put some flavouring into it to make it palatable.
The only real wild-life around at the moment was a cute mouse with huge eyes, climbing a tree.

Now it is braai time…..Cheers.
